Taste/See

Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Sitting by the lake with my granola bar and my
half decaf/half hot water/extra milk/two Splenda coffee
God reminds of something I already know.
He's like that when we pay attention.
He likes to speak to us in our ordinary life
doing ordinary things.

I've been trying to slow down when I eat.
And ever so slowly I savor the granola bar
the sweet chocolaty taste
lingering on my tongue.

And it's so much more enjoyable this way
than the usual
     bite
            chew
                  swallow,
food sliding right over the tastebuds
reducing eating to mere mechanics.

And I get it.

It's the same with you, isn't it LORD?
It's taking time to savor your words,
allowing them to linger in my thoughts,
giving time for them to find their way
into the recesses of my heart.

This . . . THIS is
tasting and seeing that you are good.
that I am safe when I make you my refuge.

Oh Lord, help me slow down as I come to you and
the food you have for my soul.

One of the things I like to do is create a visual of scripture and as I create it, it helps my ADHD brain to meditate/focus on the truth of scripture. Below ** you'll find my visual for Psalm 34:8

  1. I love the picture! I doodle and draw when I am studying the Word of God, too. Your picture lifted my heart..I needed that today. Thank you.

Tasting of His goodness with you…seeing what He will do in the midst of it all!
    Blessings,
    Dawn

    1. grateful God can use the pciture to be what you needed that day. and yes, tasting and seeing in the midst of it all…yes, it’s hard to stay there sometimes but it’s the only safe place, isn’t it.

  2. That is really, really neat! I’ve never heard of zentangle, but I can see how it would be very helpful. I am going to have to investigate this further!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with the Bible verses!

    Blessed Easter to you!

    1. not sure I answered on your blog about this, but you can go to Zentangle.com and find out more about it. i’d like to get certified and teach it from the perspective of creating visuals to remember the things we so easily forget. I most often use photos, but sometimes there isn’t a photo that fits what I want to remember. I have taken one class and hope to take a few more this spring. Thanks for visiting here..

  3. Carol, how we need to slow down. To be still and know that He is God. To savour His words. To mediate and chew on them, turning them over and over.
Thank you for linking up at Words of Life Wed.

  4. There definitely IS “something” to slowing down….savoring…digesting…meditating on the Truth of the One who comes to us in our “Galilees”–ordinary times in ordinary places. Mark 16:7.
