The Lord Comforts His People

gordon's mountain

Across this valley, on an old logging road, my brother lost his life, his body giving into the effects of deadly hypothermian before he was found.

This scripture speaks of the comfort God's presence brings to the deep grief that comes from deep loss and the compassion he has toward us.

At his memorial service we sang (well, I couldn't actually sing. I did mouth the words)
"He gives and takes away
He gives and takes away.
My heart will choose to say
Lord blessed be your name."

    1. Thanks for stopping by Linda. This brother died in 2005 that I reference here. (I added a link, since it isn’t clear when that happened.) I also have an anniversary of the death of my other brother tomorrow. I always stop and notice these days…

  1. As my family approaches the 11th anniversary of my nephew’s death, it’s comforting to be reminded that God knows. And in the knowing He has compassion on us and comforts us. Lovely post today.

    1. anniversaries are hard, aren’t they Holly. The brother i referenced in this post died in 2005. sometimes it seems like yesteray…I am sure it feels thwe same way for you and your family. May you and your family feel his presence as you remember. Present among us – one of my favorite thoughts. thank you for stopping Holly – and praying right now for you and your family.

  2. Wow, what a deep, deep loss, but what trust in God in all things those words you sang at his funeral show. I’m so very sorry for your loss.
I’m right next to you at Deidra’s this weekend.

    1. i noticed we were next door. we often are, aren’t we. The brother i referenced died 2005 – it seems like yesterday in many ways. My sister in law picked that song . . . as we realized what might happen, she heard it on the radio and said to herself, “i might need that song.” We also sang “how great is our God. . . . also chosen by her. A woman of faith!
